SuperHomer is Green Social Housing Champion 2012

SuperHomer Paul Ciniglio was named the Green Social Housing Champion 2012 at the Sustainable Housing Awards on 19th Oct. Paul is a deserving winner having been a key advocate for greening social housing delivering retrofit projects both for social landlords Radian, and now First Wessex.

One of Paul’s winning initiatives was the radical upgrading of some 1950s pre-fabricated concrete in Petersfield, Borough Grove. One of these homes is now a demonstration SuperHome having achieved a carbon saving of 74%.

Paul’s own SuperHome is a fantastic 80% more carbon efficient than it was before refurbishment and now opens to the public as part of SuperHome open days.

“I was elated to win” says Paul. And it looks like Paul is not about to rest on his laurels.  He tells us he has ambitions to:

  • Create a low carbon zone of 900 pre-fab retrofit homes in Farnborough (including a SuperHome)
  • Secure funding to help build a cluster of 10 open homes in the South Downs National Park
  • Build interest in SuperHomes in Europe (an article and case study is set for publication in the EU next month)
