Eco Renovation takes centre stage for SuperHomes Week

SuperHomes Week returns from 16 – 24 March 2013 showcasing eco renovation at its impressive best. Some 50 pioneering UK households will be opening their doors. All have refurbished older homes for greater comfort, lower energy bills and far fewer carbon emissions (at least 60% less!).

Welcome

In January we added our 150th SuperHome. But things are moving fast and we are already up to our 158th! Recent additions include the Bryn Elltyd Eco Guest House in Gwynedd, orginally built in 1883. This has achieved a 92% carbon saving. It’s in a spectacular setting too! Another newcomer in Faringdon is just fitting a ground source heat pump…It’s all happening!

Bookings open for SuperHomes Week 16-24 March

Bookings are now open for SuperHomes Week 16 – 24 March 2013. With around 50 SuperHomes set to open across the UK, this is a chance to see eco renovation at its impressive best. Joining a guided tour will give you actionable ideas for greening your home. Admission is free! But places are often offered on a first come, first served basis, so advance booking is recommended.

SuperHome wins Best Renewable Energy Scheme Award

Paul Sousek’s Cottage Farm SuperHome was recognised as the Best Renewable Energy Scheme at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards in December 2012. Paul and his wife Celia accepted the award from the ‘3 Hungry Boys’ of ITV fame.

150th SuperHome added as interest in Open Homes grows

It’s official – the 150th SuperHome belongs to Keith and Kathryn Searle of Steeple Claydon. And Aylesbury Vale is on a roll, since another local home reached the same challenging standard in 2012. In both cases refurbishment qualified older properties for SuperHomes status by reducing the home’s carbon emissions by at least 60%. They now join a growing network of green homes which will open to the public across the country during SuperHomes Week (16th – 24 March 2013).
