Record number of SuperHomes to open in March

Home improvement enthusiasts are in for a real treat in March as eco pioneers open their SuperHomes to the public in record numbers.

SuperHomes Week runs from Saturday 17th March to Sunday 25th March 2012 and this spring features 65 SuperHomes – nearly 30% more than the previous record!

SuperHomes are older homes renovated to reduce carbon emissions by at least 60%. This makes their owners uniquely qualified to explain the benefits and the challenges involved in giving your home an eco makeover. During SuperHomes Week these same eco pioneers invite you to attend free open days and tours to inspire you to green your own home.

Homes to visit in March include an energy efficient 17th Century thatched cottage, a Georgian house with minimal energy costs and an Edwardian house boasting over 100 energy saving features. You can also enjoy comfortable, draught-free, Victorian terraced homes and more modern homes where Feed in Tariffs provide an income stream.

If you live in an older home it is probable that you will find one not dissimilar to your own which has been renovated to SuperHomes standard. This means you can visit a SuperHome and come away with actionable ideas to improve your own home.

SuperHomes showcase a huge range of insulation materials and low carbon technologies. Some have Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps, Photovoltaics, Solar Thermal and Biomass. Some display triple glazing whilst others have double, secondary or even vacuum glazing. Many homes also have the latest LED lighting.

Now is a good time to consider making the switch to greener homes. Later this year, Green Deal finance promises to bring eco refurbishment within reach for many more households. The SuperHome Database makes it easy to find properties to visit with features you already have on your wish list.

In March you can visit SuperHomes across England, including in Brighton, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, London, Liverpool, Oxford and Sheffield. SuperHomes Week coincides with both Climate Week and similar open day events in both Bath and Bristol giving visitors in these areas even greater choice of homes to visit.
