Retro Expo Awards Success for SuperHomers

SuperHomers and our partners picked up a total of 5 awards at the Retro Expo Awards last night. You’d be forgiven for imagining we’re aiming for global domination!

Belfast SuperHome is Domestic Retrofit Project of the Year

1. Building Fabric Innovation of the Year
Winner: WHISCERS™ – United House Limited

The Sustainable Energy Academy (the charity behind SuperHomes) partnered United House in developing the WHISCERS system. This patented internal wall insulation system marks a first in its use of laser technology to measure the wall area to be insulated. Insulation panels are cut to size offsite making the installation fast and free of mess. Check out the WHISCERS video for more.

2. Building Services Innovation of the Year
Winner: Ventive PVHR (Ventive S)

SuperHomer Tom Lipinski founded Ventive Ltd to deliver this new Passive Ventilation system. Ventive is designed specifically for Heat Recovery Ventilation in already challenging Retrofit projects.

3. Domestic Retrofit Project of the Year
Winner: Eco-Energy Retrofit, Belfast – Eco-Energy (NI) Ltd

Not only is the retrofit house in Vincent St, Belfast the first SuperHome in Northern Ireland. It is also the Domestic Retrofit Project of the Year 2012! A deserved win for an experimental project used to push retrofit to the limits. The before and after figures speak for themselves.

4. Excellence in Retrofit Training Award
Winners: Parity Projects and EAL Ltd

SuperHomer and founder of Parity Projects, Russell Smith, is no stranger to awards. This time his company picked up the award for retrofit training excellence.

5. The DECC Retrofit Pioneer Award
Winners: Penney Poyzer and Gil Schalom, The Nottingham Eco Home

Penney Poyzer and Gil Schalom
picked up the coveted Retrofit Pioneer Award this year. They delivered the popular HOMES BEHAVING BADLY project in 2012, helping homeowners transform their energy hungry homes into models of good behaviour.

Chairman of SEA, John Doggart, was also shortlisted for the Retrofit Pioneer Award and was highly commended by the panel. John commented: “It was a wonderful night and fantastic to applaud so many winners from the SuperHomes network.”
