At Home with Water report on domestic water use

In July 2013 the Energy Saving Trust published its At Home with Water report. Some 100,000 households answered an on-line questionnaire about their water use.

The survey established that:

  • Each person uses about 142 litres of water each day
  • The average household uses 349 litres of water each day
  • Showering is now the greatest use of water in the house (25%)
  • Toilet flushing is the second largest use of water in the home (22%)
  • The average household flushes the toilet around 4600 times a year
